Bill Williams has spent his career in the retail industry, 35 years with Sainsbury’s, including 5 years as Retail Director of Homebase and 2 years as Retail Director of Sainsbury’s Supermarkets and most recently 3 years as Managing Director of Somerfield Stores.
Gareth Edwards, has spent 15 years in the DIY industry with Homebase, initially in stores, followed by senior roles in new store openings, buying and logistics.
Tony Duggan, was a Store Manager with Dixons, and has 15 years’ experience in the construction industry. He is an expert on CDM regulations Health and Safety training, and providing support staff for revamps, new store openings and specialist support. He is also the expert on PDA technology.
Gareth and Tony set up GEM Merchandising Ltd in Maidstone in 2002. Our clients then were mainly in the DIY industry. By 2008 it was necessary to relocate to larger premises with warehouse facilities to provide the growing number of clients with a fully outsourced distribution service. In order to maintain the rapid growth, GEM diversified in to new markets in 2010 and entered the Garden Centre and High Street divisions which have proved a success. GEM now completes 60,000 calls per year nationwide on behalf of over 1550 outlets with a fully trained professional team of over 50 merchandisers.
With an abundance of experience our Office Team, based at Head Office in Sittingbourne, provide administrative support to both Management and Field teams.
Having worked for GEM for many years they are capable of adapting their skills to meet changes in the industry in order to stay competitive and meet the varying demands of each client. They have always embraced new technology and are trained in building PDA applications that incorporate briefs, call sheets and photographs. The office team pride themselves on their high quality service ensuring merchandisers have all the tools they require to fulfil their tasks and that clients receive their reports in real-time.
